Spraying at the Right Time
In order for water to hit a pianta, the pianta has to finish their 'getting out of the goop' animation. You can see when this happens because their position goes back to normal before they go into their idle animation.
Spraying the Piantas
The most efficient way to spray the piantas is a spam spray, which on the ground can only be done with a backflip. So Hold R then press A and B.
Small Piantas
To spray the small piantas, hold R and press forward on the control stick for Mario to look down. Then press A and B like before.
Getting the Shine
To get the shine after talking to the mayor, hold Up-Right, do a jump dive, and then a rollout.
